LOUNGE PULPIT

Colt McCoy, star UT quarterback, told about his teammates asking how to receive the Holy Spirit and why he thinks baptism is important. He phoned his grandparents ahead of time to pray for him and the 15 guys that agreed to meet at 8 pm in the athletes’ lounge. About 10 pm the phone rang again. It was Colt. “I just had to call and tell you I baptized five of my friends tonight!” They heard a noisy celebration! They had read scriptures about conversions and one asked: “Do you mean to tell me that you don’t think I have the Spirit? I have thought of myself as a Christian for years and felt that I had the Spirit.” Colt said, “I’m not telling you what I think, I’m just showing you these scriptures. It’s up to you to decide what they mean.” He showed them Acts 2:38 and 5:32 that say the Spirit is given when one is baptized for forgiveness of sins. Then he got to the story of the Ethiopian’s conversion in Acts 8. One of the guys knew of a nearby swimming pool and said, “Here is water; what hinders me from being baptized? What are we waiting for?” Ask for the rest of the story.
