LOVE: THE CROSS
The most famous verse in the Bible is found in John 3:16. It tells of the unfathomable love of God: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (KJV). Many times God spoke of His grace and love in giving His one and only Son in order that the sins of man could be forgiven through His blood (Eph 1:7). Jesus was in the beginning with God, and He was God (John 1:1-14). At the proper time, He left heaven and came to live in the flesh on this earth. He spoke as no man had ever spoken. His mission was to teach the way of salvation then to lay down his life and shed his blood for the forgiveness of the sins of mankind. “Greater love has no man than this, than that he should lay down his life for his friends,” and yes even for his enemies ( Jn 2:32; Jn 15:13; 1 Cor 2:1; Rom 1:16). He showed His disciples that He must be killed, and on the third day be raised up from the grave (Matthew 16:21). “Behold what manner of love!”
