ASK FOR THE OLD PATHS

The prophet wrote: “Stand in the ways and see and ask for the old paths, … the good way, and walk therein … but they said, We will not walk therein.” (Jer 6:14-16). Only God has solutions for man’s spiritual problems. Churches of Christ believe and teach true paths, God’s way. 1. The Authority of the Bible. Man cannot direct his own steps (Jer 10:23), so he must turn to God’s word, the Bible (2 Tim 3:16-17; I Thes 2:13; I Cor 2:11-13). 2. The Uniqueness of the Church. Jesus said, “I will build my church” (Mt 16:18). He built only one. He is the Savior of that one (Acts 2:47; Eph 5:23). The Lord never built any denomination. He is the “one head” over the “one body, the church” (Col 1:18; Eph 4:4-6; Jn 17:20- 21; I Cor 1:10-13). 3. God Accepts Only What He Authorizes. God accepts in worship only what He has taught us. Man has no right to devise new styles of worship. He refused the worship of Nadab and Abihu (Lev 10), not because they were wicked or immoral, but because they did what they wanted in worship instead of staying within the old paths God had authorized (2 Jn 9-11).
