UNDENOMINATIONAL CHRISTIANITY
Jesus preached the gospel at the beginning of His ministry. The kingdom of God was near (Mk1:14-15). He later said the kingdom would come during their lifetime (Mk 9:1). The kingdom and the church are the same in the Bible. It was not then and is not now a denomination (something larger than a local church and smaller than the whole family of God). We must not “go beyond what is written” (I Cor 4:6) because the scriptures give us everything we need (2 Tim 3:16-17). The Bible is always right. The true church is pre-denominational, with only one church in each city such as the church in Ephesus, Philippi, Jerusalem.
The church is a special group owned by God and purchased by the blood of Christ (Tit 2:11-14). God described this group as “the church” (Mt 16:18; Ac 2:47; 20:28), led by elders and deacons (I Pet 1:15 Tit 1; I Tim 3). Members are Christians, saints, disciples (Ro 1:7; Ac 11:26; 20:20; I Pet 4:16). All congregations in various cities were called “churches of Christ” (Ro 16: 16)
God planned only one church (Eph 1:10ff; Isa 2:1-4; Mk 1:14) to which all disciples were added (Ac 2:38-47) by faith, repentance and immersion (baptism). All spiritual blessings and salvation are found therein (Eph 1:3).
