OBEY
Jesus said: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (Jn 14:15)
You may want to hang these words on your refrigerator – Obey right away, Obey all the Way, Obey in a happy Way. These are good family rules meant to teach the children obedience as they grow up. They are also good rules for us all.
“Obey right away” means to not procrastinate when God’s word calls to us. Jesus obeyed His Father instead of doing what He wanted to do. If we love God and promptly obey Him we will be blessed. We have no promise of tomorrow.
“Obey all The Way” challenges us to do all that He commands us to do, not just the things that seem easy. Jesus went all the way to the cross, after praying all night while His disciples slept. In following Jesus, we put aside our own way and go all the way with Him.
“Obey in a happy Way” compels us to obey in attitude, not just in action. God honors obedience that flows from a heart that loves and trusts Him.
Naaman was a high official in the army, but he had an incurable disease. The prophet Elisha gave him a simple command for healing. He rebelled, wanting cleansing in his own way. A little girl reminded him to obey soon and to be happy about it (see II Kings 5). Think about your sins and your obedience to Jesus (Mk 16:15-16; Acts 5:29; 22:16; Rom 6:3-4). Trust And Obey!
