ANCIENT LANDMARK

salvation-issue“Do not remove the ancient landmark which your fathers have set” (Prov 22:28). We live in a world of changes and additions in our struggle for progress. All around we see discarded systems that failed.

We fail to consider that no fundamental principle has ever changed. The law that makes 2+2=4 existed before the science of numbers was born and will remain true till time is no more.

There are some things which cannot be changed or improved, such as the divine wisdom and truth of God Almighty. Most of the religious world is swept away from the one church of Christ to man-devised denominations and entertaining community churches. They have removed the ancient landmarks and have invented ways of their own. They have become “plants which the heavenly Father planted not” (Mt 15:13). In the words of the Bible: “The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their desires they will heap up for themselves teachers and will turn their ears away from the truth” (2 Tim 4:3-4).

Most of the disregard for Biblical truth today is based upon either (1) If man is sincere, he is right – known as the plurality of truth. But when two disagree, both cannot be right. When one disagrees with the Bible, he must be wrong. (2) The other error, expedience, says whatever feels good by human judgement is OK, resulting in division into thousands of warring factions (II Jn 9; I Cor 4:6).
