HIWAY 183

This 13 mile stretch of Highway 183 is scheduled to cost $2.2 billion.
Work is proceeding according to contracts drawn up by the State of Texas. If contractors receive their pay, they must conform to the specifics in the contract. Inspectors constantly check to assure conformity. Please hear a parable like Jesus taught His disciples about flowers, birds, pathways, etc
Highway 183 contract specifies concrete pavement. However, in an effort to please nearby residents, suppose one overseer of the work took a survey to see what the people wanted. They learned some citizens prefered black asphalt through their neighborhood. This non-conformity would be rejected by the supervisor!
What is the meaning of this parable for our spiritual worship today?
When God specifies in His covenant, no alternative is allowed in any particular category. Example: People may prefer baptism for babies instead of for prescribed adult believers (Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38). Or they may want to worship with mechanical instruments and rhythmic clapping instead of obeying the prescribed singing with melody in their hearts (Col 3:16; Eph 5:19). Many other examples could be given. Even Jesus did nothing on his own without His Father’s command (In 5:30; 6:38; 12:48-50).
Friend, reject your own way and comply with God’s New Testament covenant! Do not “go beyond what is written” (I Cor 4:6; Jn 8:32).
