SINNER’S PRAYER
Each day many people are told by well-meaning individuals to say a sinner’s prayer in order to receive salvation. BUT, such a prayer is not in the Bible at all! While God gives only one plan of salvation, to pray for salvation is not in the Bible. There is no scripture that says we can pray Jesus into our heart. There are 9 cases of conversion to Christ in the book of Acts: 1. The 3,000 on the Day of Pentecost (2:14-41). 2. The Samaritans (8:9-12). 3. Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch (8:26-39). 4. Saul/Paul (9:1-19; 22:3-16). 5. Cornelius (10:44-48). 6. Lydia (16:11-15). 7. The jailer (16:16-34). 8. The Corinthians (18:1-8). 9. The Ephesians (19:1-7). If you will read each of these accounts of conversion, the sinner’s prayer is not found in one of them. So where did the idea come from? It must have come from the god of this age, Satan, the deceiver. You will see the pattern of true conversion is to hear the gospel, to believe in Jesus, to repent of sins, to confess faith, and to be baptized (immersed) for forgiveness of sins.
