Go ahead, guess. 12 inches? 11 inches? 10? 13? You can’t know until you take a ruler and measure. Only by using the same ruler will all answers be the same. Let us apply this principle to religion, where all the answers are different. How does one become a Christian? How should we live? How worship? When? What happens when we die? Yes there are millions of opinions. Obviously we need a dependable ruler to establish truth and to bring unity. That ‘ruler’ in religion is the Bible, God’s word. It came from God! “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Pet 1:21). “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet” (Psa 119:105). “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim 3:16-17). This divine ‘rule of faith’ will bring unity for which Jesus prayed (John 17:21). Example: personal salvation is important, so let us apply the divine ruler and see what Jesus says.
