WRATH OF GOD

Mr. R. has trouble with God being good and also having wrath. Many Bible passages affirm God is both good and severe (Romans 11:22; Revelation 6:16-17). God’s wrath is mentioned throughout the Bible, yet it is rarely heard in pulpits of modern churches. Sinful man has convinced himself that God’s sole attribute is love.
Wrath is rage, fierce, hot anger. God’s anger is righteous, just and reasonable. He knows all facts in any case and is never wrong in His judgment or anger (Psalm 139:7-12; Revelation 19:2). His wrath is exercised in both time and eternity. Remember the flood in Noah’s day (Genesis 6-7) and the wicked sodomites (homosexuals) of Sodom and Gomorrah who were destroyed (Genesis 13-14). Jesus said unless men in His day repented, they “would likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). The men of Nineveh repented and thus God spared them from His wrath (Jonah 3:10).
“The wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 5:6; also see Romans 1:18). It is called a fierce fire, a storm, poison, a flood (Job 21:20; Ezekiel 13:13; Isaiah 28:2). God gave His only Son, Jesus Christ, that we could be “saved from the wrath of God” (Romans 5:9; I Thessalonians 1:10; Matthew 18:8; 25:41). Read Psalm 6:1.
