THE DEAD
Death is a separation. Last week, we observed that the death of an infant occurs when their body and spirit separate and its body returns to the dust (the grave) and the spirit returns to God in paradise. Scriptures were also shown that proves the age of innocence terminates when a young person reaches an “age of accountability.” At that time in life, “All sin” (Romans 3:23). If anyone says he has not sinned, he is a liar (I John 1:8-10). When we sin, we die spiritually and are thus separated from God.
Because all men sin, God gave a plan of salvation: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Faith will save a man from spiritual death when he “obeys the gospel,” for “faith alone is dead.” (James 2:14-26) Jesus said the man “dead in sin” must believe, repent, confess and be baptized (immersed) in order to have sins forgiven (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:26-27). Thus we are “born again,” our “sins are washed away” by the blood of Christ (Acts 22:16; John 3:3-5). We are then added to the family of God, the one pre-denominational church of Christ (Acts 2:38-47).
