MUCH WATER

Noah and his family were “saved by water” (I Pet 3:20). God sent MUCH WATER to destroy wickedness, but it lifted righteous Noah and his family above the wickedness then set him down on a cleansed earth. Notice this comparison: “Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you” (I Pet 3:21). Immersion in water (baptism) separates us from sin, just as Noah was separated by water from the old world’s evil. It is false doctrine that says “baptism DOES NOT save us” when the Bible says “Baptism DOES save.” It is dangerous to contradict plain Bible truth! “Let God be true, but every man a liar” (Rom 3:4). Now you know why John preached where there was “MUCH WATER.” (Jn 3:23)

There was no power or magic in the muddy Jordan river to immediately take away Naaman’s leprosy, but God said, “Go dip in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored.” He did, and it was (2 Kings 5:1-14). We do not believe in the water, but we believe in God who commanded to dip in the water! Peter said baptism is “an appeal to God for a good conscience” ( I Pet 3:21). Paul said those once enslaved to sin “obeyed from their heart (referring to baptism) … and were set free from sin” (Rom 6:17-18). The saving power is not the water, but the resurrection of Christ (I Cor 15:3-5).

Noah was saved by water. This is a type (Greek, tupos), a picture, and baptism is the anti-type (Greek antitupos).
