SUBMISSIVE WIFE – ME?

I became a part of the bride of Christ, being spiritually married to Him at age 11. I became part of His bride, His church (I Peter 2:9) when I was baptized, born again (of water and spirit, Jn 3:5; Acts 2:38). My joy and promise became to declare His love, to confess His holy name, to submit in loving obedience for the rest of my life. He promised He would be with me “always, even to the end of the world” (Mt 28:20). The scriptures describe the beauty of Christ’s bride, His church, which He purchased with His blood (Acts 20:28). By His grace and in obedience to His command I have celebrated His death in partaking of the Lord’s Supper upon the first day of every week, never missing a Sunday, the Lord’s Day, for over 73 years. My aim has always been to “be faithful and true” to my spiritual spouse till death parts us. Fourteen years later I married Ellen and continued our journey as she promised to love, honor and obey me. We set out together in continuing service as the bride of Christ, promising to cling “until death shall part us.” Through mutual love under Christ, our joyful journey has continued for over 58 years. *Me, A Submissive Wife is a book by Glover Shipp on parallels between human marriage and spiritual union between Christ and His bride.
