THE NEW COVENANT

If no fault had been found with the first covenant (the Old Testament), no place would have been sought for another (Heb 8:7). Please notice several better things about the New Covenant:
1. Better High Priest. Jesus is the High Priest of the New Testament dispensation (Heb 78,8,13). He offered His own blood once for all mankind.
2. Better Sacrifice. The blood of bulls and goats could not “take away sins” (Heb 10:1-4). God was “preparing a body” which Christ came to offer not over and over again, but “once and for all,” to take away the sins of the world (Heb 10:5-18). Our sins are “washed away … forgiven” in baptism by His blood (Acts 2:38; 22:16).
3. Better Promises. “Forgiveness of sins” rather than a “remembrance of sin year by year.” This offers a better hope of salvation in heaven, a truth made known through the New Testament (Acts 2:38; 2 Tim 1:10).
4. Better Worship. Regulations in the first Tabernacle (Heb 9) were “not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper” (vs. 0-10), and were to last only “until the time of the new order” (vs 1-10). The tabernacle, animal sacrifices, mechanical music, Aaronic priesthood, etc., were all abolished when Jesus nailed the old law to the cross and took it away (Col 2:14).
This new covenant was prophesied by Jeremiah (Jer 31:31-34). The old was only intended to be binding until Christ, the Messiah, should come. It is now obsolete as a law (Heb 8:13).
