CHURCHES OF CHRIST
JUST WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? With nearly 1200 religious groups recognized by the IRS, one probably knows little about any particular church. Just what is distinct about the church of Christ? Are they worldwide? What is their message? How are they governed? About half of the 27,318 congregations are in the USA and the rest are in 121 other nations with a total known membership of over 2 million. In our day, men try to bind their own traditions and thus division has occurred. The solution is to return to the Bible to resolve differences (Amos 3:3). The spirit of churches of Christ is to go back beyond denominationalism to the first century. God’s way is the safe, right and reasonable approach (Gal 1:6-9; Jude 3; Rev 22:18-19). There are no governing boards or man-made creeds. Each church is self-ruled with elders selected by its own members (1 Tim 3 and Tit 1). The worship is simple. Christians meet to pray, to sing (a cappella as authorized). The Lord’s supper is observed each week (Acts 2:47; 20:7). To be added as a member, one must believe, repent, confess and be immersed (baptized) “for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). Ask for booklet.
